This page refers to the southernmost area of Heimr's main contintinent. For the alliance, see The Utgard Alliance.
Utgard is the southernmost area of Heimr's main continent. It is dominated by a massive mountain range spanning nearly the entire area. This mountain range is divided into three separate chains; the south-western chain is called Gataur's Teeth and is the birth place of the Tellurians?. The eastern chain is called White Peaks and the north-western chain is called the Pillars of Ice.
The Caldera Rim is the low mountain range surrounding the crater in the middle of the Caldera Wasteland, although often it is also used to refer to the entire crater. The crater and mountain range encompasses the Tellurian city of Fireforge.
The Caldera Wasteland is a large desert to the south of Midgard. It is enclosed by the Morgana Mountains? on the east side and the White Peaks and Pillars of Ice mountain ranges on the south side. It is a barren of rocks, sand, cacti and the occasional Orc ruin, with only small settlements and nomadic tribes living outside of the city of Fireforge.
History
The wasteland was originally a lush jungle, the birth place of the Orcs.
Blazing Peak refers both to an active volcano in the Highlands of Uln as well as the ruined Tellurian city below this peak.
The city was originally founded as the second Tellurian city, it's location chosen precisely because of the active nature of the volcano, the Tellurian founders seeking to exploit it for increasing their knowledge of forging. Immediately upon its founding, the settlers met with problems. Due to the volcano's activity, they had problems digging into its sides, with tunnels collapsing due to quakes or flooding with suddenly emerging lava.
The Highlands of Uln are a small mountain range in the centre of Zarashal. They are named after a vicious Ogre who carved a small realm for himself in the mountains several thousand years ago.
Gataur's Teeth is the south-western chain of the mountain range dominating the area known as Utgard. It is the birthplace of the Tellurians? and home to the city of Evermine.
White Peaks is the eastern chain of the mountain range dominating the lands of Utgard. Together with the Morgana Mountains? it forms a natural wall containing the Caldera Wasteland and preventing the rest of the southern lands from drying out.
Zarashal is an area of marshes, plains and other lowlands to the south-east of Midgard. According to local folklore, the name is derived from the name of the Arch Daemon of Gataur and thus anything built here is doomed to be destroyed again. Scholars claim this cannot be true, as the name of the Arch Daemon is completely different. Yet even they cannot explain when asked why not even the Tellurians? could build a city here.
High Language: Mutama Island Native Language (Troll?): MaUppaNatPlem
Mutama Island is a large island to the east of Utgard. It is the birth place of the troll race and houses one of the largest ruins in Heimr, that of the former troll capital Bregtahlem.
The sea of spirits is a large body of water separating Mutama Island from the mainland of Utgard and Zarashal. The name is a reference to the Spirit War? between the Trolls and the Tellurians?. During this war, the sea was the primary frontier, with marauding groups of lightweight troll vessels keeping the barges of the tellurians at bay.
